Odisha players Ashish Kumar Parida and Ameek Kiran Batth won the boys and girls singles titles respectively in the Gurukul AITA-OTA Championship Series (CS3) U-18 Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Gurukul Resort Tennis Complex, Mendhasal, Bhubaneswar today.
Top seed Ashish won the boys singles final, defeating statemate Rahul Behera 6-2, 6-3. This was the third AITA title for Ashish, who claimed his first titles _ one singles and one doubles _ in under-16 category earlier this year.
Local favourite Ameek, also the top seed, emerged girls’ singles champion, beating
Lavanyaa Sreekirishnan of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 6-2 in the summit clash. This was the 22nd career AITA title for Ameek, whose past 21 titles include 10 singles and 11 doubles.
A total of 24 players from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Odisha participated in the Gurukul AITA-OTA Championship Series Tournament. Singles title winners and runners-up gained 15 and 10 AITA ranking points respectively.
Tournament Director Pradeep Pradhan gave away the trophies to the winners and runners-up in presence of Tournament Referee Jatin Batsya and Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) Manager Prakash Pattnaik.
